Access Control

The hackspace has an RFID-based access control system. It controls the door into the building and the internal door to the hackspace.
For details on the tech behind this see Marvin P Droid.
Access for non-members
On open days/nights the door will unlock with a press of the # key on the keypad. A notice advertising this should be placed on the downstairs door.
Outside of these times the # key acts as a doorbell.
Access for members with an RFID card
- Present your card to the wooden reader by the keypad at the outside door. If another member is already present you should get a green light and the door will unlock.
- Repeat this procedure with the reader at the top of the stairs.
Access for members with an RFID card and PIN
If the space is currently closed:
- Present your card to the reader by the keypad at the outside door.
- The light should illuminate blue.
- Enter your PIN
- The light will turn green and the door will unlock.
If the space is already open:
- Present your card to the reader by the keypad at the outside door.
- The light will turn green and the door will unlock.
Since the space is now open (the sign at the top of the stairs will be illuminated) you'll only need to present your card to the reader at the top of the stairs to unlock the door.
When you leave
- Present your card to the reader on the inside of the upstairs door - this will log you out.
- If you are the last person to leave this should turn off the blue sign.
- If the sign doesn't turn off then someone forgot to log out. Press the * button on the keypad to force the space to close.
- Please ensure the doors are locked, windows are closed, lights and equipment are turned off (except equipment that stays switched on).
